Changing marketing choices

💡 From time to time we’ll share exciting things with you about new features, offers and rewards. Those updates are called marketing messages and you can choose which types of messages you receive. This help article sets out the types of messages, how to turn them on and off, and what they mean for you and your information.


You can choose what marketing messages you receive

We have four different ways of sending marketing messages to you. It’s up to you which messages you do and don’t receive and you can change your preferences at any time.

These are:

  1. ‘News and updates’ marketing: This allows us to send you general marketing messages about offers and rewards you can access in our app. If you turn this on, we can send you emails and push notifications outside of our app.

  2. Cashback offers: This allows us to send you marketing messages about cashback, once you opt in to cashback. If you turn this on, we can send you emails and push notifications outside of our app.

  3. Personalised marketing: This allows us to send you personalised marketing messages about features and updates based on how you use Monzo. This is automatically turned on when you sign up for our app, so you’ll receive communications in the app (and if you have ‘News and updates’ on, you’ll also see these outside of our app).

  4. Lending promotions: This allows us to send you marketing messages about our lending products like Flex credit card and loans. If you turn this on, we can send you communications in our app (and if you have ‘News and updates’ on, you’ll also see these outside of our app).

You can pick and choose your marketing preferences – and change them at any time.


How to choose which marketing messages you receive

To change your preferences:

  1. Open our app

  2. Tap your profile picture in the top left of Home

  3. Tap 'Settings'

  4. Tap 'Notifications'

  5. Use the toggles to set which messages you receive

Clicking on the unsubscribe link in our emails will opt you out of the ‘News and updates’ permissions, so you’ll stop receiving general marketing messages outside of the app.


To stop receiving personalised marketing messages:

  1. Open our app

  2. Tap your profile picture in the top left of Home

  3. Tap 'Settings'

  4. Tap 'Privacy & security'

  5. Use the toggle next to ‘Personalised marketing’


Messages about cashback

We may want to tell you more about cashback offers available, from time to time. This includes details about cashback overall, as well as specific offers from merchants we work with.

If we send you a cashback marketing message that includes a merchant name or logo, it's important for you to know that:

  1. we haven’t shared your personal information with that merchant, unless you’ve chosen to opt in to cashback (where we only share ‘de-identified’ information, which is information that can’t be used to identify you)

  2. the merchant will not send you marketing messages, unless you’ve signed up with them directly

  3. we know the merchant and they support how Monzo provides cashback to you

This applies to all our marketing messages — even if it’s a message where we only highlight one merchant.
