Mobile Operating System Support Policy

13th November 2023

We want you to have the best experience when using the Monzo apps.

To do this, we have a set of operating systems that we actively support, so you can use Monzo from your mobile device.

What is a mobile operating system?

Your 'operating system' (or 'OS') is the software that runs on your phone or tablet.

We support both the iOS and Android operating systems, and have an app that runs on each of these OSs.

Operating system versions we support

What we support strikes a balance between:

  • Which OS versions the majority of our customers use, and what other banks support

  • Which OS versions get security updates

  • The total number of OS versions there are to support

    • New versions of iOS and Android come out each year. The Monzo app runs best on these most recent OS versions, and we want customers to have the best experience possible

We support a fixed number of OS versions: 4 versions of iOS and 8 versions of Android.

At the moment, we support iOS 14 and later, and Android 7 and later. When iOS 18 and Android 15 come out in 2024, we will stop supporting iOS 14 and Android 7.

What happens when we stop supporting an operating system version?

When we stop supporting an OS version, customers on this version will no longer be able to get the latest Monzo app version. This means you will miss out on having the best Monzo experience. If you are affected by this, we will email you to tell you.

One full calendar year after we stop supporting an OS version, the app will stop working from all devices running that OS version. If you are using an affected OS, you won’t be able to access your Monzo account from that device anymore.

You then have three options:

  1. Upgrade your operating system version, if you can

  2. Change the device you use to access your Monzo account from

  3. Close your Monzo account

Upgrade your operating system

Devices will come with a specific version of an OS, and the manufacturers provide updates for several years after it's released. If you can upgrade your OS, please do so. You can then continue to use the app and access your account as usual.

Change the device you use to access Monzo

You may have multiple devices - for example, a phone and a tablet. If one of the devices isn't compatible, it's possible that another device is.

Close your Monzo account

If you will no longer be able to access your Monzo account from a compatible device, then unfortunately you can no longer be a Monzo customer and we will need to close your account.

We depend upon the apps for many things: to keep you informed of activity on your account, for you to manage your account and make payments, to chat with our customer service team and more. We don't believe it's fair to you to have a Monzo account that you can't access.

If you are in this situation, we will reach out to you a full year in advance of us stopping supporting the OS that you use, and explain what will happen.

On iOS:

We may also prompt you in the app if you are on an OS version that can be upgraded.
