Notices of Correction
Notices of Correction are statements of up to 200 words, that you can add to your credit file, on things like missed payments or defaults.
They're typically used to explain a time when someone's struggled to make repayments after losing a job or becoming too ill to work.
They're also used if someone's been a victim of fraud. That person can add a password to their credit file that'll be asked for by the lender, whenever a credit application is made in their name.
If you add Notices of Correction to your credit file, any lender accessing your credit file through that credit reference agency will see it. Lenders have to read any Notices of Correction. However, they don't need to take this into account when deciding whether or not to lend to you.
As a regulated bank, we have to review any Notices of Correction on your credit file when you apply for credit. We'll ask you when you apply and if you’d rather we didn’t, that’s fine, but we won’t be able to approve your application.
