How Direct Debits work
Direct Debits are a common way to make regular payments, like paying for a gym membership or phone bill.
The person or organisation that you’re paying (sometimes called the merchant) sets up the Direct Debit. It gives them permission to collect money from your bank account whenever a payment’s due. The amount and how often you pay can vary.
You can cancel a Direct Debit anytime in the Monzo app by going to the Payments tab and tapping ‘Scheduled payments’. Make sure you let the merchant know before you cancel your Direct Debit, as you may have to pay a fee if you miss a payment.
